Zone 5 Death Notice: Harry Shaughnessy

With regret, Zone 5 reports the passing of retired Z-5 member Harry Shaughnessy on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

His obituary is as follows:

Harry Joseph Shaughnessy, 91 of Monroe Township died Saturday December 19th at his home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Shaughnessy lived there and Staten Island before moving to The Ponds at Clearbrook community in Monroe Township 20 years ago.

He was employed for 21 years as a firefighter for the NYFD, Brooklyn, retiring in 1975.

Mr. Shaughnessy was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of the “Frozen Chosen”, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Township and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Brooklyn.  He and his wife Ann enjoyed many years of world traveling.

He was predeceased by his daughter Susan Leff (Tom’s twin sister) and his sister Janet Connelly.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ann Turner, his children Gail Weinstein and her husband Jeff of Monroe Township, Steven Shaughnessy and his wife Ellen of Miller Place, NY, Harry Shaughnessy and his wife Sue of Breezy Point, NY and Thomas Shaughnessy and his wife Jennifer of Brielle, NY, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services will begin 9:15 a.m. Wednesday December 23rd at the Lester Memorial Home 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg followed by a 10 .m. funeral liturgy at Nativity Of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Township.

Visitation for family and friends will be 8:15 – 9:15 a.m. Wednesday and 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 24th at the Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
