Zone 5 Death Notice: John Deegan

With great sadness, Zone 5 reports the passing of retired Z-5 member John Deegan on Monday, December 28, 2020.

His obituary is as follows:

John William “Bill” Deegan, 88, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Dallas, GA with Reverend Father Adrian Pleus officiating. A private family burial will take place at Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:30 AM.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Anne Deegan of Powder Springs; sons, Bill Deegan & wife Cindy of Canton, GA, Mike Deegan & partner Samantha Levine of West Palm, FL, Steve Deegan & wife Joan of Acworth, GA, & Christopher Deegan & fiancé’ Tina Balogh of Huntington, NY; granddaughters, Ashley Bollinger & husband Garrett of Marietta, GA, Kristin Deegan of San Diego, CA, Morgan Smithson & husband James of Columbus, OH, Keri Deegan of Canton, GA, & Arianna Deegan of Acworth, GA; grandsons, Matthew Deegan of Alexandria, VA, & Bryan Deegan of Acworth, GA, and special family friends, Brittney Vergel De Dios, Christine Reliford & Darious Reliford.

Bill was born Sunday, October 9, 1932 in New York to William & Marcella Deegan. After graduating high school Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married Anne Fiscella in January 1954, and they were together 66 wonderful years. Bill & Anne completed their family with 4 loving boys that brought much energy to their home. Bill worked for many years as a Boilermaker/Welder with the Boilermaker Union Local 5 and was a part of building the World Trade Center. He loved working with his hands, especially woodworking & enjoyed making candy dispensers for all his children. His favorite saying was to measure twenty, cut once! Bill also enjoyed traveling and even acquired his pilot’s license. Bill believed in investing in people, and if you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He was hard working and a good provider. Bill was a loving husband, father, & grandfather. His warm loving presence will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends for visitation between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA.
